GYÖRGY PÁLFi
A native Hungarian, Pàlfi started his formal training in 1995 at
the Theatre and Film Academy in Budapest, though his life as an artist
and filmmaker was launched well before when he began experimenting with
and making Super 8 films as a youth. After making his mark on the festival
circuit with several award-winning shorts, he went on to garner more acclaim
for his first feature, HUKKLE, which claimed, among others the Fassbinder
Award, the Discovery Film Award from the European Film Academy, the Golden
Firebird Prize at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, the Special
Jury Prize at the Fest du Film de Paris, and the Hungarian Criticâs
Award in 2003.
TAXIDERMIA cleverly weaves the tale of three generations of men in a Hungarian
family, told through the eyes of a young taxidermist and his quest to
piece together the shattered remnants of his past.
TAXIDERMIA received the 2004 Sundance/NHC (Japan Broadcasting Company)
International Filmmakers Award. This annual award was created to support
new voices in international cinema and is presented to emerging film directors
from different global regions, to support them in realizing their next
project. Founded by Robert Redford in 1981, Sundance Institute is dedicated
to the development of artists of independent vision and the exhibition
of their new work.
