PHOTOGRAPHY AND BEYOND
PHOTOGRAPHIE UND JENSEITS
A series of films by Heinz Emigholz

Photographie und Jenseits is a film series about
writing, drawing, sculpture, and architecture.
The films' subject-matter
are achievements in active design and projection—ideas that have
been made real—and are visible as writing, drawing, photography,
architecture, and sculpture. What is being analysed is a way of seeing
that is almost reversed – seeing as expression, not impression.
The eye as the interface between the brain and the external world; the
gaze as the energy of composing that turns the inside out and presents
a mirrored reality.
By means of filmic analysis of architecture and sculpture something indescribable
is formed from documented and animated notebooks and sketchbooks: a film
about the objectification of mental ideas and images.

Three films were realised as part of Heinz Emigholz' series
Photographie and beyond, dealing with buildings and projects
by Austrian architects, produced by AMOUR
FOU and KGP (Vienna) in collaboration with Heinz Emigholz Filmproduktion (Berlin). The films were realised in the style of the already completed films of the series, Sullivan's Banks, Maillart's
Bridges and the award-winning Goff in the Desert.
